Welcome Tim Mathews – General Manager

Monday 2 Aug, 2021

Tim Mathews has big goals for Hornby’s newest family dining destination, and he has the experience to achieve them.

Opening at the end of 2021, Hornby Club’s new family restaurant will combine a children’s playground and delicious family meals at an affordable price. Located in our newly refurbished building, the restaurant is sure to become a family favourite for Cantabrians.

“I am really excited about the family-style restaurant opening and the direction
it will take for Hornby Club. We want to ensure we meet the expectations of our dedicated members, while also attracting more young families to Club life. I want to see just how good a family restaurant it can be and introduce the Club world to a whole new generation”, says Tim.

With the background and energy to back it up, Tim will be a fantastic new asset to Hornby Club. His experience includes ten years working with Lone Star in the Franchise Operations Team. He has also worked in Corporate Finance with PWC and most recently down in Dunedin as Operations Manager for No 7 Balmac and the Esplanade restaurants.

Canterbury-raised, Tim is excited to be back in his hometown and newly engaged to his fiancé, Sophie.

“I returned to Christchurch earlier this year and it’s great to have found such a fantastic position and opportunity with Hornby Club. My first impression is that it’s a wonderful environment where the Board and Management want to do the very best by the members. It is also a great, modern

fit out with excellent facilities,” says Tim.

Tim has worked in the hospitality industry since leaving school. His passion for the sector comes from a love of people.

“Hospitality is ultimately about the people. It’s about the team and the customers. That’s all that really matters. I get a kick out of people enjoying themselves,” he says.
