Manager’s Report for July 2022

Monday 4 Jul, 2022

Hello all,

It was great to see the Pool Tournament run so well upstairs and the Club used for what it was designed for. Our AGM and Elections had good levels of engagement from yourselves, especially as there were just two positions up for election.

We have continued to see a great following of our Sunday Buffet in Chalmers as well as a great turn out for Election Day Buffet and Mid-Winter Buffets.  Functions are also showing great potential with really strong bookings of all of our spaces from early morning, pre work meetings for trade staff to corporate all-day conferences and evening parties. It was great to have the Lancaster Club lunch come back too. Legends Bar and Pavilion Café continue to grow, so thank you all for coming in and frequenting your Club.I do have to acknowledge that we have been hit with a lot of COVID related staff shortages over the month. So thank you for your patience and apologies if these shortages have effected your enjoyment or use of our Club. You will continue to see a number of new faces on the staffing team as we employ some new faces and bring back a couple of old faces to assist us in meeting the growing needs and demands of our busy Club.

The National Darts Tournament starts on the 5th of July and will continue until Saturday the 9th. We are excited to host this event and see what the competitors and visitors bring and how our Darts team goes. We look forward to helping you host your tournaments and wish everyone competing the best of luck.

Menu offerings
We have some menu updates coming for Legends Bar and Pavilion Café from Tuesday 5 July.
Sadly, we are going to have to pass on our cost increases in these updates. These include excise tax increase of nearly 7% alongside up to 20% increases in food costs since the last price change.
As such you will see price increases in our Pavilion Café and Legends Bar menus as well as price increases in almost all of our beverage offerings. Chalmers price changes will come later in the month after further review.

Sorry, but the Club is not able to absorb these costs and remain sustainable, so they must be passed on.

We will be bringing back some weekly specials at Lunch and Dinner served with fries:

Wednesday Wings

Thursday Burgers & Beers

Friday Lambs Fry & Bacon

You will see the service caddies back on the low tables in Legends Bar. These are there to assist the team in delivering the level of service our members expect. So our members have cutlery, napkins, salt and pepper when they need them. They assist in reducing the staffing demands and therefore staffing costs, which also help us keep our offerings at the price point they are.

In the Club this month we have:

Work on the carpark starts on Monday 4 July…!! See the Build update for the pictures and timing.
Remaining fixed price contract work to be completed before our grand opening are signed off and subcontractors have been engaged. As a reminder, these include a glass divide between Legends Bar and Pavilion Café, and an additional meeting space as well as increased toilet capacity and an accessible toilet being added upstairs

TAB
Our proposed TAB drop in space shown at the AGM will unfortunately not be possible due to compliance issues, as such has been discontinued so we will come in further under budget.
In our Gaming room we have two game changes. A new payout machine to replace going up to the counter to collect your winnings will be put in after the Dart Tournament

OUR STAFF
As mentioned, we have a number of new staff, so please introduce yourself and make them feel welcome. We will be training them up over the month. And we welcome back Ragiel to a full-time position in the team.
We say farewell to Amy L from the Café and Chalmers. Thank you for your time and effort in assisting us in getting Chalmers up and going, all the best with your travel.

COVID
Yes this, alongside the Flu, continues to be an issue and it has been difficult managing the 20% staff shortages recently.
During the National Darts Tournament, you will notice that we will have the small screens up again, as well as full screens in place in the All Sports Bar. This is to protect our staff, guests and yourselves as members while we have so many out-of-towners in our Club.

We are looking forward to another busy month and trust you like the changes and updates happening around the Club.

Kind regards,
Tim Mathews
