July 2022 Euchre / Cards Update

Monday 4 Jul, 2022

Hi to all Members.

Thanks to our regular card section members that enjoy coming along to our weekly Thursday night cards, we occasionally get up to 40 members (this depends on how cold is the night).
Also great to have some new members recently join our club, to come and play euchre.
We have currently played three weeks into our first set of six Aggregate games. It is played each week as just a normal card night, with score cards handed in each night, with overall the best five scores collated and recorded on completion of the final night on 21 July.

On 28 July, we have our special End of Month Pairs Night, with everyone playing with their chosen partner for the night. We can arrange a partner on the night. We always get a great turnout of members on these Pair’s Nights with most having a fun night with lots of humour. On this night, we will also announce the winners of the overall Aggregate winner and second and third placing for pay-outs. The results are unknown by members prior to this. We all wait in anticipation! So going forward, we are starting our second set of Aggregate games on 11 August, running through to 8 September. Our Saturday Interclub Games are well underway, amongst our local five clubs, we have played nine weeks of games with the majority of our Hornby team having wins. We still have six games to go, finishing on 13 August. We are going ok at this stage, but every week is a challenge. Every Saturday, I require 26 players to play in our Saturday Cards Team. I would just like to thank personally my loyal team members, that play each week or give me pre-notice if not available, and to my regular reserves/fill ins. I would also like to thank Tim Moynihan and Mick B, that accompany us every week, wherever we are, home or away, on the bus and to be our runners to bring the odd drink to the table.

So, dates to be marked up:

Thursday 28 July.
Pairs Night
Sunday 7 August.  All sports, Alan. Cole Trophy playing Euchre, between other sections.
Sunday 28 August. Hornby Cards hosting six handed Interclub Tournament
Saturday 10 Sept.  Cards Section bus trip to Oxford Club.

Before finishing off, on behalf of Cheryl Gianelly, and the committee, we wish to thank all those many Club members supporting the card section, with purchase of Lotto tickets on a monthly basis to provide funds back to our card section. It is really appreciated.

Regards,
Lorraine Cole
