April 2022 Manager’s Report

Monday 4 Apr, 2022

Hello all,

What a quick three months that has been… We are into April and a new 200-person max, for now, has been mandated, what a great change this has been for the Club over the last week, with us able to have larger functions upstairs and more people in the Legends and Pavilion area.

Thank you for coming in and we are looking forward to seeing more of you over the month as the restrictions ease (hopefully) and the virus numbers drop off.

We continue to have consistent lunches, and steady weekend evenings, getting up to just under the 200-limit last week when it first lifted.

Sections, your continued patience is greatly appreciated, and we are really looking forward to kicking off the Autumn and Winter with your return at the Orange Light level.

In the Club this month we have:

Raffles

  • Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 4.30pm
  • Saturday 11.00am to 1.00pm

$20 Legendary Dinner Deals  – Continue on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

20% discount in Chalmers for those dining or seated before 5.30pm in our First in & Save option.

Wednesdays & Thursdays – Members draws 2 x $100 vouchers on your card – sign up by 6.15pm for a 6.30pm draw after the raffles.

Crack the Cube – back EVERY Friday – sign up by 6.15pm to be drawn between 6.30pm & 6.45pm.

Building activity

  • You will see the accessible toilet by the Gaming room now have sliding doors
  • Pavilion has a larger coffee machine for those busy times
  • The water damage from the fire system leak in the main bar above Westview room will be getting repaired this month (materials dependent), apologies for the delay.
  • Our Trophy Cabinets are in the process of being completed now
  • The surveying for finishing off the outside of our Main Entrance and some changes in our Car Park will commence this month

Food & Beverage

  • As of 1 April 2022, we announce the price increases for food and beverage. These come into place on 6 April 2022 and are due to the below reasons:
    • We have had multiple beverage price increases in six months, and these are signaled to continue
    • Our food suppliers have passed on or signaled a 5-7% increase in their prices
    •  Living wage increased on 1 September 2021
    • Minimum wage increases on 1 April 2022
    • We have not had any price increases to keep up with inflation since moving into the new Legends bar in October 2020
  • We need to do this to maintain the continued sustainability of our Club, especially given the additional pressures Covid and its associated restrictions have had on our Club
  • Brian, our treasurer, will announce the beverage price increases on Friday 1 April as is traditional

    Our Team

  • Our staff bubbles were able to be popped with the change in the Government “close contact” definition. This has enabled us to cover the rolling isolation requirements of the staff and continue with seamless staffing of the Club. Please remember we will continue to check you and your guest’s vaccine passes on a regular basis, until we are at Orange or 1 May 2022, so please be understanding.
  • Recently we have welcomed Julie and Christina to our Legends and Pavilion Front of House teams, please do say hello and make them feel welcome, as we know they look forward to looking after you all.
  • Simon has taken over the day-to-day management of the Front of House team and is doing a fantastic job managing the short notice changes that are so prevalent at this time, thanks Simon.

Covid

  • As you will see on the coming “Covid Rules at Hornby Club” page, we will be following the traffic light system to the letter. This means masks will be required whenever you are not seated at your table until we reach “Green” level.
  • When it comes to mandates, the Club will require Vaccine Passes to enter until Canterbury is in “Orange” OR until 1 May 2022, whichever comes first.
  • We will be doing what we need to do, to keep our members and staff safe

Thank you again for continuing to support your Club during these times, and we look forward to seeing you in to renew your membership and catch up with friends soon.

Kind regards,
Tim Matthews
