April 2022 Cards Update

Monday 4 Apr, 2022

Hi to all Members.

April comes along, and so brings Easter Weekend, the school holidays, and Anzac Day. So much happening in our everyday lives for so many of us this month.

So, as we know we are still in the Red Traffic Light setting, with so many conditions still placed on our sporting sections availability to participate in regular Interclub Activities. Hopefully we will get back to playing euchre one day in the future.

Our card/ euchre section team did get to play in the NZ South Island Steinlager Trophy in early March, held at Richmond Club. We had a team of eight play.

There were 15 clubs from around the South Island, 62 pairs, a total of 124 players. We were split into two rooms to accommodate Covid rules.

Sadly, no trophies came home with us. The winning team was Oxford and runner up was Timaru South. Photo shown of our team. A well-run tournament by Richmond.

Our Saturday Interclub Tournament with 26 players, playing either Euchre or Crib (9 Euchre pairs) and (4 Crib Pairs) is due to start on 30 April against the six other local clubs on a Saturday, it will be held on a weekly basis. At this stage we are still not sure whether this interclub tournament of games will be happening.

As Club Captain in charge of Sat Cards: to our regular members from last year, who play every week, I have your names, but any new card section members you need to let me know if you would like to join our team. Please email me colelj@xtra.co.nz.

All going well, our Card section Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held on Thursday 28 April.

This is the time members need to speak up if they have concerns, don’t sit back and criticise after this meeting. We also need more helpers on our committee.

Regards,
Lorraine Cole
